Maurita has been a foster parent in North Carolina for over 17 years. Currently she and her husband provide housing for young adults, helping them transition to independent living. While she has had over 70 youth in her home over the years, she adopted 2 teens in 2012 and is in the process of adopting 2 young adults along with her husband. Professionally, Maurita has completed higher level training in working with kids who have been traumatized, as well as mental health training to support the youth in her care. Maurita also completed the Duke Non-profit Management Certificate in 2014 and served as Vice President and President of the North Carolina Foster and Adoptive Parent Association for 3 years. Maurita has been an accountant in corporate America for over 30 years. Maurita has a great passion for foster care not only in our state but our nation as well.
Shane has been a foster parent for over 10 years and is committed to giving foster parents a voice and the support they need. He has an undergraduate education in Organizational Leadership and Graduate degree in marketing. He has been in the healthcare field for over 20 years much of that time spent in leadership roles with large healthcare providers. Shane Currently resides in Black Mountain with his wife, Erin, who is a Family Nurse Practitioner and their 5 kids. Shane brings expertise in non-profit leadership, marketing, advocacy and education. He looks forward to working to ensure that foster parents voices are heard at local and state levels.
Pete has been a foster parent since 2013. In 2018 he and his wife, Ginger, received the Adoption Excellence Award from AdoptUSKids for their efforts in the foster and adoptive community within Wake County, NC. He has an undergraduate degree in Business Administration, and been in the Information Technology field for the last 18 years in Operations & Program Management roles. Pete currently resides in Raleigh, NC with his wife and their 3 kids.
Thy, his wife Jamaica, and their two children have been a licensed foster family for about 3 years. Thy is currently a Director, Pre-Sales for Information Governance and Digital Solutions at Iron Mountain. Thy is also part owner of Seeds and Sprouts Kids Consignment Sale, a bi-annual event that helps families sell and find gently used children's items. Donated items from the consignors, as well as a portion of the sales, go directly to foster families and charities that support them. To relax, Thy enjoys playing sand volleyball, building Minecraft worlds, and improving his karate skills.
Kate received her Ph.D. in School Psychology in 2013 from Penn State University. For over 10 years she has worked with children and youth, from infancy to adolescence, in a variety of settings including group homes, inpatient mental health facilities, and the public school system. Kate is currently a professor in the Psychology Department at NC State University. Since 2016 she has partnered with the Center for Family and Community Engagement, a public service and research center at NC State, to develop training resources for foster parents of children and youth with developmental disabilities.

Rochelle is Co-Chair of the Triangle Foster Parent Association and has been a licensed foster parent through Durham County since 2017. She has a variety of businesses and partnerships in the hospitality industry that include The Cookery, Dashi, Ponysaurus Brewing Co. and Soomsoom Pita Pockets in The Cast Iron Group.

Director of Foster Care & Adoptions, Crossnore School & Children's Home. Originally from England, Alex has spent the last 16 years working in child welfare fields in various capacities - including work in Canada, West Africa and now the US. For the last 7 years, Alex has Directed Foster Care and Adoption programs in Asheville area - working to increase access and resources for families and children, as well as improve outcomes for children in care. Alex's passion for Foster and Adoptive care stems from both his personal faith walk, as well as the appreciation of the power of families who open their homes to children in need through his own Mothers childhood story.
Joanne received her Masters in Social Work from Florida State University in 1975. She is currently serving as a trainer in the Staff Development Office of the Division of Health and Human Services in Raleigh, North Carolina. Previously, she was employed as Supervisor of the Parent/Family Involvement Unit of the Florida Department of Education; Parent Services for the Bureau of Student Services and Exceptional Education; Senior Trainer with the Children and Families Professional Development Centre in Quincy, Fl.; a Community Social Worker with the Severely Emotionally Disturbed Network (SEDNET) and Parent Specialist for Leon County Schools.
Stephen received his B.A. in Psychology in 2001 from Mars Hill College. For over 18 years he has been working in behavioral health care in a variety of settings including juvenile justice, foster care, adoption and post-adoption and social services. Stephen’s has expertise in training, marketing and recruitment, LGBTQ youth advocacy, project management and grant/management writing. Stephen’s passion is to provide advocacy and support to children and families.
