      • KinGAP

        • The Kinship Foster Care and Guardianship Assistance Program (KinGAP) offers financial assistance and Medicaid for youth who are determined to be in a permanent family setting and unlikely to obtain permanency through reunification or adoption. Licensed kinship caregivers and licensed foster families willing to provide a permanent home for the youth in their care may be eligible for KinGAP. See basic eligibility requirements for more information.

      • Kinship Therapeutic Foster Care

        • A specialized program for children with trauma, abuse, or severe behavioral needs to be cared for by a relative or close family friend, providing them with the necessary support, training, and a family-centered environment rather than a residential setting. North Carolina has piloted this approach, partnering public and private agencies to identify suitable youth and kin, and provide licensing, training, and ongoing support for kin caregivers to meet the complex needs of these children.

        • If you are interested in therapeutic foster care, you can contact private child placing agencies.
