The Thompson 5 in ’25: A Story of Love and Forever Family

When we first started fostering, our goal was to offer love, safety, and stability for as long as each child needed it. We knew reunification was the main goal, and we always supported that. But no matter how much we believed in that mission, saying goodbye was always hard, and our hearts broke a little each time a child left our home, even though we were always rooting for their families.

Sometimes, though, reunification just isn’t an option. This is when the courts change that child's plan to adoption and start the path to finding a permanent, loving home. And in 2025, that became our reality five times. Five beautiful children, each with their own story, their own spark, and their own special hearts, have or will become Thompsons in 2025, with our last two adoptions happening this month. Each adoption day is its own celebration of love, family, and forever. And while it has changed their lives, it has changed our lives even more.

Over the years, we have watched each of our children grow and heal in ways that leave us speechless. The laughter that fills once quiet spaces, the trust that is replacing fear, and the guards coming down for hugs, smiles, and “I love you’s” at bedtime are just to name a few examples.

Our home is definitely louder, messier, and busier than ever, but it’s so full of love and more blessed than we could have ever imagined. We wouldn’t change a single thing.

What we have learned along the way is that family isn’t about DNA, it’s about showing up, loving through the tough days, and believing in each other no matter what. So being The Thompson 5 in ’25 isn’t just a catchy phrase, it's a promise. A promise that these five amazing kids will always have a loving home, a last name, and a family cheering for them through every season of life.

We are so blessed to have been chosen to walk this journey, and as I have said from the beginning, and it’s still true today, every single child who has come into our lives has given us more than we could have ever given them. They each have given us perspective, purpose, and proof that love can truly transform a life.

So as we recognize National Adoption Month, we also recognize that adoption through foster care often begins with loss… But even through that loss, it can lead us to the most beautiful outcomes of all, a forever family. And for us, forever has never felt more beautiful.
